Shared Equity is available on limited plots and schemes and has been designed specifically for people who are struggling to afford a new home. It gives you a helping hand onto the property ladder by reducing the amount of money you have to pay upfront to purchase a new home. In short, it's the smart way to buy your first property.
Even though you own your new home, you only pay 75% of its price upfront while the developer provides the remaining 25%. You then have ten years in which to repay the developer, which you can do in stages, based on the market value of your home at the time of repayment. Alternatively, you can sell your new home within this ten year period and take 75% of the value of the property at that time.
